wet front part of engine, car won't start
Everyone,
I need help fast. I did something really stupid. I was hosing with water the front top part of the engine to remove a little grease. When I tried to start the car, engine idled roughly. So I turned it off and dried the parts that got wet. Then I tried to start it. Engine cranks but won't start. Please help! R.V. 1992 300 TE Wagon (103 engine) ako@earthlink.net |
You probably flooded the distributor and shorted it out.
You will need to remove several allen head screws to remove the distributor cap -- its under a black plastic cover. the cover may have a screw or two holding it on. Remove cap, dry it out, and try again. Also, dry the wire from the coil to the distributor cap. If you see serious burn marks (spidery white marks) where the coil wire goes close to metal parts, you need some new wires. If you run the engine in the dark with the hood open, lights off, you will see why! Peter |
Lessons Learned
Thanks Peter. I followed your advice. Car started just like it should
