Bilstein shocks - single nut on upper stem mount only?

Dear All:

I've just bought a pair of Bilstein shocks for my '86 560SL and am getting ready to install them. However, when I opened the box, I was somewhat surprised to find that they were supplied with a only single lock nut for the upper stem mount, and not the double nut design that is fitted to the cars current shocks. Is this a change in design for Bilstein, or am I missing a nut?

Whilst on this subject, does anyone use thread locking compound on the upper or lower nuts that secure the shock?

Thanks for any advice,
Ryan

Yes the rear shock should have a locknut and a mounting nut, you probably can just reuse the existing locknut. Just tighten all to the specified torque.

Sorry Tim, should have noted in my initial post. The shocks are for the front of the car - do I need just the single locknut on the upper mount???

Thanks for the reply,
Ryan Potts

Sorry Ryan, I was going to mention in my first reply that the front has only one mounting nut and its torque at 15 lbs or 20 Nm.
enjoy your drive, timreid
