Front hard disk?

Do you mean front flex disk on the drive shaft?

If so, yes, it's a good idea to replace it if it's worn out.

I had the flex disks replaced on my 300D and the whole bill was under $220.

You need to see a good indy mechanic. This job does not require any seriously special trools, other than hex allen sockets.

Eventually, the flex disk will break and the driveshaft will whack itself to death on the pavement and the pan of your car, but it will probably make a great deal of noise first. Clunking when you shift from Drive into Reverse, for example.

A flex disk could not possibly cost this much. Price one here and see.

I just priced a front flex disk from an online supplier (Still waiting to hear from Phil), and the part's about $58. My local indie shop says that labor's about $75. So all in, you shouldn't be looking at much more than $125-$150. (I've got a 95 C220 with 77k miles-- running on borrowed time here, the clunking started at around 65K)
