Cruise Control Disengaged around 55mph

Dear all,

I experienced a strange behavior of the cruise control of my 1998 E-320. I speeded up to 65 mph and engaged the cruise control. It didn't want to hold the speed and I notice a slightly RPM surge - I felt a slight engine brake. However, the cruise control would engage at the lower speed but no more than 55 mph. I tried to search cruise control problem in this forum and founded only 2 other members experiencing the same symptom. However, there has no response to this problem. I am wondering if this problem is new to us with a newer model of Mercedes Benz. Any input, suggestion and help to diagnose this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.
