Windscreen spray nozzle ..

My windscreen spray nozzle (97 C230 Kompressor) broke off the other day and I was quite puzzled to note that it has two wires connected to it. I had a look in my Haynes manual but there is nothing about this. I disconnected one of the wires on the working nozzle and found that it still works normally. Why does this nozzle have wires feeding into it ???
