Be on the lookout!!!!
I have had an inquiry from a friend to find him a '90 or '91 560SEL in PRISTINE condition. He was considering a new S-Class and I talked him out of it. His criteria is as follows:
-Black exterior -Black interior -UNDER 40K miles -ALL service history from either a dealer or independent MB SPECIALIST He WILL pay for the right car, and if we find something soon, he will write the check immediately. But the above criteria MUST all be met. He also wants to buy a '90-'92 500SL in the same condition with the same criteria applying. Please e-mail me at: benzpower@aol.com if you have any leads. |
go for a 93 or94 129 car, a bit more sorted out.
or nut up and get a off lease 97 to 99. Joe |
Under 40K? That's gonna' be tough. Good luck

I located a '91 560SEL today with 39,500 miles on it. Original owner, Florida car. Only catch is that it's white. Personally, as much as I dislike white, I do think it looks smart on an LWB W126. Well, we're still holding out for black/black.

One of our clients brought in a find the other day. Late production 80 450sl, 43k original miles. Unhacked, pretty much untouched car. Top appears to have never been in the sun, spare has never been on the ground, original belts no less. Other than getting the system pressure in line and cleaning the fuel head and servicing it, it needed nothing.
They are out there, you've just got to root 'em out. Joe |
Aaron, you probably already know about them, but it sounds to me like you are looking for a car that Hatch & Sons would probably have or know about. This is the company up in the northeast that specializes in just this type of car. Of course, their prices reflect their market, but I thought I should mention them just in case you weren't familiar with them. Should be able to find them doing a google search . . .

You might also check out Daniel Schmitt & Co. in St. Louis. They specialize in cars like that. However, if it was me, I wouldn't limit myself so much on mileage. Finding a black on black 90/91 560 with all records might be challanging, but possible. To find one like that AND under 40k...I'd say would be like the proverbial needle in a haystack. Mileage isn't as important if the car was meticulously maintained. I think that is the key here, maintenence, not mileage...granted it's some off the wall number. I would much rather have spotless, meticulously maintained car with an anal-retentive PO with 80k on it than one with 40k that wasn't cared for. If it were me I would raise the mileage limit to maybe 75k or so....still with all records naturally. Just my $0.02.

Hi, I live not far from Hatch, here's a link of their current inventory, they may help with a search.
http://www.hatchandsons.com/pages/sales/late_model and another northeast vendor: http://www.signaturemotorcars.com/SMCInventory/89_560SEL_Black_Pearl.htm this is very close to what he is looking for |
Gentlemen,
Thank you for the replies so far. I spoke with Jim Hatch a couple days ago. I have him on the hunt for what I am after. The customer of mine who requested these cars is one who is very anal retentive about maintenance and therefore will only settle for a low mileage car (which has been well cared for). He is willing to pay top dollar for the right car and I know they are out there. I have some customers with '90-'91 560SELs which are black/black and are in pristine shape but they have over 80K on their cars and this fellow is determined to find what I am guessing must be the "BEST" 560SEL and 500SL in the country. If one with 50K or 60K pops up, I would be interested, but the records must be top scratch. |
