Engine shocks
 

I am getting ready to make a big parts order from FastLane, but before I do so, I wanted to ask about the engine shocks. One thing I am going to order is engine mounts, and I thought that while I do that I might as well do the engine shocks too since they are right there. Come to find out...these things are expensive!!! About $100 for both with the hardware kit! Seems a little much for such small items, but that's MB parts for ya I guess. If that's what they cost at FastLane, I'd hate to see what the dealer charges for them. So my questions are: Is it really necessary to replace these things? Do they actually wear out? If you guys think it is necessary or very worthwhile, I'll cough up the Benjamin, but I thought I would ask first.

The motor mounts are pnuematic vibration isolators and do "wear out" over time. The symptom is that you can feel the engine vibration coming thru the chassis and it is a very good idea to replace them. In addition have your chassis' other vibration isolators looked at as well, including the transmission, driveshaft and rear subframe isolators.

Yeah, you sound right. I guess I'll just cough up the cash. You mention the other rubber mounts, I was already planning on ordering everything you listed. It will be interesting to see what difference they all make. And there better be one because that's a lot of money!:)

Maybe its a placebo effect, but everybody that has it done swears their Benz is back to showroom smoothness at idle and up through the gears. Good luck!

Though I have yet to replace one mbjtc (and now have two diesls that need them), from what I understand the engine shock primarily controls the amount of 'bucking' when you shut the engine down. This can be very pronouced, and make the car seem unrefined, but I'm not really sure what kind of damage you are causing. Just helps smooth the whole thing out to how it should be ;)

Also, it's a fairly easy replacement, so if you're so inclined, I'd go for it....
