Front 2 fans rattling
 

I have a 91 190E 2.6

It has a loud rattle from the very front of the engine bay. The two fans in the front do not spin at idle.

I checked all of the fans, including the radiator, and found no leaks or loose blades.

It seems as if it may be the connection between these fans and whatever moves them.

I don't know that much about this vehicle yet, I just got it.

I don't believe the fans should spin at idle. Do they kick in when the temperature gets higher? I think there's an electromagnetic fan clutch which may be causing the noise. A quick search of these forums will turn up plenty of info about fans & clutches for the 190E, but bear in mind the setup is different in the 2.6 versus the 2.3, 2.3-16 etc.
