Vibration !!
 

Under heavy acceleration around 45mph & at speeds above 75-80mph I am encountering a very noticable vibration. If I push the clutch in & disengage the drive shaft it stops.

I am thinking it may be out of round or out of balance. Anyone had anyhting similar to this occur?

Yes, in case you are wondering I have all new steering & suspension components on all four corners. Brand new tires, rims & a Hunter Laser alignment. She rides nice but, as soon as I decide to get on it the vibrations start up?

I recently replaced the drive shaft & new disc & a carrier bearing. As well as a trans mount.

Remember, Pat said that the vibrtion went away when he kicks in the clutch. Although a ridiculously high percentage of vibrations are tire related, I think he has eliminated the tires for this one.

Yeah, new rims & new tires. Almost zero balance on all four. Followed by a Hunter laser alignment.

As I accelerate up to around 75 mph it isn't that noticable. Once I hit around 80 I really feel it. Once I push the clutch in and disengage the drive train it seems to stop.......?

I would certainly double-check the driveline work.
Makes me think your driveshaft balance is suspect. There are little tricks you can do, to check it yourself.

Hey Pat, check the rear c/v joints. I've has a few of these that hammered loaded and then would center up and quiet down unloaded.

New axle shafts (half shafts) installed not more than 6 months ago.

I looked at the factory marks on the drive shaft to make sure it was in line & they are right on the $$.

I still suspect that maybe the shaft is out of balance!!!

A year ago I had a similar problem after I had my flex discs worked on. It turned out the rear flex disc were not tightened and were loose. After re-tightening the disc, the problem went away.

I had a repair to the rear diff and they replaced a washer in the wrong place making the shaft and rear allignment off. Only one small washer and I had the same high speed results. At 90 Mph or above the rear made a terrible humming plus the lower speed vibrations. Good Luck, let us know what you find.

It's going on the lift tonight, hopefully I can find the problem.

Well, I posted about my 16vlv vibrating above a certain speed.

I looked at this weekend & FIXED the problem !!!

A few months ago, I had some newbie here helping me swap the rear axles, rear diff & prop shaft.

I should have triple checked everything !! DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!!

I found that I had a few loose bolts on the front disc & a sheared bolt on the rear disc.

This guy had like $20,000 in tools, but only $0.02 in knowledge on how to use them.

I guess I can't blame him, b/c I should have watched him a bit closer, but DAMN!!!!!

Needless to say, I am back in action, vibration FREE !!

Now if I could just get that "stroker" kit ;)

Yes, a large box full of Snap On tools does not a qualified tech make! There are some people who can do more with a Crescent Wrench and chewing gum than an incompetent can do with a BIG box of tools.
