Help, Tranny Problems
 

Hi All:

Did the search but didn't find a problem similar to mine. Today while driving, I got a case of major whiplash twice when my car jerked violently from fourth to third gear while going 50mph. It got stuck in third and I drove for a little bit and then I slowed down and then put it into neutral and then put it back into gear and it ran fine until I got to my destination.

Now when I am accelerating or passing, it jerks violently into third gear from fourth and if I am lucky, it will shift to fourth. Every once in a while, I hear a whining sound like the old Muncies M22. Sounded cool but I know it means trouble.

Anyone has any idea what I am up against? A local shop quoted $2,700.00 to rebuild. I feel it is high.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need to get that thing out and inspected. There really is nothing external that could cause that.
