What is this on W126 engine?

Hi everybody,

at the passenger side next to the oil filter housing is this piece. What is it? The black plastic is falling apart.

What needs to be removed to replace it? Drain engine oil, remove oil filter housing?

Thanks for your help.

That is the connection for the oil level sending unit.
Looks like the o-ring is leaking.

Thanks M.B.DOC,

Is it difficult to replace? I assume I need to change the oil level sender ($49 at FastLane) or only the o-ring? (ah, who am I kidding...) I'll do a search on it.

Thanks for your help

I would only replace the o-ring. But first you will need to drain the oil & then remove the lower oil pan.

You will need MB part numbers 017-997-57-48 for the o-ring & 119-014-08-22 for the oil sub-pan.

Thanks again M.B.DOC,

If you take one more look at the picture, there is this black piece of plastic between the sensor and the electric connector that is falling apart. You can see more white of the sensor than you should. I tried to wipe off the oil and a bit just broke of.
Do you have a part number for that too, or is that part of the sensor?

Thanks again

Hi there,

I called the parts dept. at the dealership and learnt that the plastic is the connector and the rubbery piece is a grommet on top of it. The pieces are each a bit over a buck and he ordered them for me.

Thanks again M.B.DOC

Any tips for removing the oil pan and the ring that supposedly holds the sensor in Place?
