I have a 1993 500E and it is shifting like crap. From start position the RPM goes all the way to 4,500 then it finally shifts. I dont think that is normal. I think it is supposed to shift at 2,500 at a normal start without fast acceleration. Any suggestions?

Try the simple stuff first............if the fluid level is low or high, you'll get these symptoms.

fluid levels, blown modulator diaphram, sticking throttle pressure relief valve, fraying or callapsing bowden cable. Your might also have the upshift delay feature and might not be "releasing".
(too early to get the right word. :-) ) Joe

You might try this link,
http://www.rbtechla.com/index.asp or review some of these links, read ItalianBenz posts click here , or here I think ItalianBenz's friend maybe able to do a rebuild for under $1500, you might email ItalianBenz to see if this is still available for Mercedesshop members? I'm sorry to say, but this is exactly what happened to my 190e. The dealer looked at it and the clutches were warped. Had to get a rebuilt tranny. $2,300. GOOD LUCK, and I hope that it's something else for you.
