Question about SEL hood latch assembly
Car is a 1990 420SEL. When I hit any kind of a bump the left side of my hood pops up about a 1/4". Not quite as high as when you would pull the strap but it's annoying as heck !
My question is ....should I replace the latching assembly that's attached under the cross member ( $48 bux from dealer ) or is it possible it has something to do with the inside release that controls the cable, or maybe even the cable itself? Is there a way that the cable is adjusted? Is replacing the latching assembly pretty straightforward or is it connected to the cable release? It looks like 3 phillips screws going down into the crossmember. I'm not real mechanically inclined so any theories here would be greatly appreciated. |
I had a similar issue with my drivers side lifting up. The local dealer ended up spacing the u shaped rod that is on the hood out a bit so that it caught correctly inside the latch mechanism.
