Doh! Broken screw holding coil in!

Argh...

Okay, so I was changing the plugs on my C36 this afternoon and all was going well until I got to the number 6 plug. The 6 plug in my car is beneath the #3 coil, thus the coil must be removed before you can access the plug. There is a small flathead screw that holds the coils in place. As I started to loosed the screw, the head srtripped!! and not a little strip, so that using a different bit would possibly allow me to remove it. The screw head broke where the notch meets the screw body- only leaving half the head!!.

So two things:

1) How do I get this damn thing out so that I can replace the #6 plug?

2) Is my car going to be damaged by running 1 OE bosch plug and 5 platinum 2 bosch plugs? I cannot imagine it would be a issue in the short term <100 miles, but better safe than sorry.

That is not a mounting screw and it does not have to come out to remove the coil..
It is a Stud and the coil slips over it and it is secured to the stud with a built-in spring clip... [ the clip is the ground connection]

the coils simply lift off of the studs...

Don't think your car is going to like the plats....

Hmmm.... I will have to keep that in mind. It seems to be running pretty well on the platinum +2s, but if that changes, I will go back to the OE Bosch, which I believe is the plug you are talking about.

Thanks I have to admit I felt pretty clueless when I found that out. The only way to learn is to try stuff and ask when you get stuck. Luckily, I have you guys!

I am using Bosch platinum +4 in my 97 E320 and they work exceptionally well without any problems. The only thing that has changed is that it takes longer to crank but cold startup performance has improved quite well over the only Bosch supers.
