What on earth is this box under the dash?

i took this with the panel on the above the pedals detached.

i went in there because the buzzer for when u leave the lights one wasnt working well, so i cleaned the contacts and now it works great. while i was back there i noticed the highlighted box in the graphic, and the fact that its connecter cord was detached. I plugged it back in but nothing to do with the car has changed. what does it do?

Looks like your cruise control amplifier.

Also, just as an aside, you might want to see if the MB SLK pedals will fit your car!

It is the cruise amp without a doubt...the large bundled wires end at the actuator, the smaller bundle to another connector that goes to the switch on the column. If it is disconnected, be aware that sometimes people have problems with cruise systems engaging and accelerating on their own when the amps go bad - be mentally prepared with a shutdown procedure in case it happens to you while you test it out.

its funny, i thougth it may have something to do with the cruise control, seeing as it doesnt work. ill test it out to see if it works now. (isnt the cruise control dependant on the vacuum system?)
