1998 C230 AC question.

I am not able to turn on the air conditioning in our C230. The refrigerant has been checked and is at the proper level. All the fuses are okay. Is there something that needs to be reset after an AC service? The economy switch light will not go off.

TIA,
Steve

when the E.C. light is on and can't be switched off, there is a
electrical fault in the ACC system. You will need to have a MB
dealer pull the diagnostic codes from the control unit to see whats up. There is probably a failed pressure sensor or switch.
Good luck.

The most common AC failure for this car is the evaporator temp sensor. Cheap fix.

Good luck. BTW, I haven't had good luck at Hyatt with respect to their service dept. Might give LoneStar a shot...

Me Too

Blackmercedes,

I have a 98E320 and my wife claims that very rarely (just a few times in the last year) the A/C will not blow cold. When she gets back in the car later, it works fine. From all the posts I have searched, it seems as though the 210 has a common problem with the evap temp sensor.

Can you confirm/comment about the 210, where the evap temp sensor is located, ball park cost for the sensor, and what is involved in replacing?

Thanks for the help.

Problem solved. (Well sort of)

I had it into the dealership for an unrelated issue and I mentioned the problem to them. They reset the AC system and now everything is well again. It has been fine for about 3 weeks now.

Thanks again,
Steve

The A/C evaporator temp sensor MB number 210-830-07-72 lists for $53 & is in the heater case on the drivers side just above the gas pedal area. Removal of drivers side underdash panel is required.
