My car occasionly tugs when I accelerate. Or in more detailed words its rate of acceleration increases and decreases through the whole process. It follows no particular pattern. It may accelerate at one rate for half a second and then at a higher rate for 1 second and so on. This problem first started when I changed my fuel injectors and has gotten worse. I also need a new fuel distributer because my 7th cylinder isn't firing at idle(due to too much gas), but this was the case before this "tugging" started. The compression is good, I had that checked and I've changed the air filter and fuel filter to no avail. Maybe it's the fuel pump. I'd appreciate any help.
thank you

Why were the injectors replaced?? What year car is it? The fuel pump can be tested for pressure & delivery. Has the ignition system been tested for coil output?

Thanks for replying. I replaced the injectors because I figured they were clogged. Unfortunatly the fuel distributer is probably the culprit. I think the 7th cylinder works at higher RPMs though, because the car is driveable. But the "tugging" problem only started after I changed the injectors. Maybe it's a coincedence.
Coil output is related to the distributer cap, right? Well, I changed that and all of the sparks are getting sufficient voltage.
thanks

PS the car is 1978

It sounds to me that you are experiencing ignition miss. This could be created from a wide variety of problems. The 350 motors often had oil consumption problems that led to plug fouling. The first thing I would suggest is that you have the ignition scope tested. If you are approaching this as a do-it yourself situation I would read your spark plugs. They should be an even toast brown with very little buildup of ash or soot. If these look reasonable then I would try misting your ignition wires, cap and coil with a spray bottle filled with water. This would be best viewed in the dark, of course the engine must be running.I hope this helps and heads you in the right direction.

So if the spark plugs are good then I should spray a mist of water on the ignition system stuff. What does this test? And if they are all sooty I'm in trouble, huh?

thanks
