S140 Oil level light

My 1992 S600 recently overheated due to a split heater hose. After replacing the hose everything is back to normal exept that the low oil level light is staying on all the time.

Is there a way to reset this light, or has the overheating in someway damaged the sender unit? If so,could someone please tell me what sort of job it is to replace the sender unit.

One other question. Is it possible to remove only the glass from the headlight assembly? and if so, is this part available as a separate item?

Any help would be really appreciated.

cheers,

Bob

not sure about the oil light on the cluster, but I am sure you can replace the glass on the headlight. I have seen them on E bay from time to time selling as just the lens. Search for W140 light.

If its dirty, you can take the lens off and clean them. Cheaper that way.

cheers

The oil level sending unit is located near the lip of the oil pan by the rear of the engine. Replacement will involve draining the oil and removing the pan in order to gain access to the unit.

While you are at it, replace the oil pan gasket (probably leaking anyway), and the o-ring for the sending unit...

I have the same problem and from what I can see removing the upper oil pan is not a job for the weak of heart. Alldata says you have to take half the car apart to do it. So I was thinking may be I can get by removing the lower pan only, but even then I can't see how I can gain access to couple of bolts obscured by the subframe... Any advise?
