SL needs center comp lid, can anyone direct me to less expensive parts source?

1996 SL500, looks like the previous owner tried to force the center console/compartment lid (between the seats) open and completely tore apart the plastic underpiece. The top leather seems to be fine and does not need replacing.

Went to the dealer and they said they only sold the top and bottom portions as a unit, to the tune of $640 bucks!!! I was hoping some of you had better solutions, especially since I only need the underside and its just stock black. I dont have any junkyards near me with mercedes, and I havent had much luck with internet searches.

Thanx much!

You might check with Tom Hanson @ Caliber Motors if you don't have a junkyard option...

...but I have heard from others that that IS pretty much the going rate for the replacements!:(

Try this place in Chicago for your part.

The gentleman is very friendly and will try to help wether he has the part or not. Seems to specialize in MB.

773-509-9999 or Ideal2@Mindspring.com

(Tell him that Rick, the guy that called for the 560SL spoiler this morning recommended him)

Good luck!

Try Potomac Pat. He is a member of this site and works at this Mercedes Recycling Yard in Maryland:

Thanx much guys, so far Tom at Caliber motors quoted me $519, which is better than the dealers $640. I will try the other leads you guys have posted.

Just for the record, Caliber Motors is a Mercedes dealer, located in Anaheim, California.

Tom just sells parts at wholesale cost to guys like us on the internet.
