W210 (E320) CD Changer questions
 

I have seen TWO brackets for the E-class (W210) CD changer. I was wondering if anyone here has the original MB changer with MB install kit actually installed in the FACTORY location. If so, can you please send me pictures of what it looks like installed? I have a few questions.

I have found the harness and have tested my cd changer. It works. I know that the changer goes inside the little "pocket" on the floor of the trunk on the driver side.

I have acquired a potpourri of brackets and MB logo dust covers but I want to know what comes in the factory install kit.

I can take pictures and send them to anyone who might be able to help me identify what needs to go where.

I know there are only two brackets made for this car and I have one of them for sure but it doesn't line up with the holes in the trunk. Which is the correct one?

Also, what is the point of this "soft case":

How would it be used in this installation? How would the cable get inside and how would the bracket mount if this soft case is used?

I'm not sure how much I can help since I have never taken mine a part.

Check the lighter grey bracket again to see if the holes line up. The orientation is correct in the second picture of the bracket (below). The two tabs with holes screw to the trunk right at the edge of the "pocket". It feels like the third tab might screw to the bottom of the pocket.

The dust cover goes on after everything is installed and connected. It should just slip over it.

The black bracket looks like my factory installed CD changer.
The first picture of the CD changer in the softcase looks like the factory install. The softcase slides over the CD changer (acks like a dust cover), since there is no bottom to the softcase the wiring comes from the bottom.

I would send you pictures, except my digital camera is broken. The CD changer goes in vertically in the "little pocket" on the drivers side trunk with the CD drawer facing the rear of the trunk. The two tabs on the bracket rest on the raised portion of the trunk and are held by screws. The softcase slips over the CD changer. If the mounting holes don't line up then you might have to drill and tap new holes.

I went through the same thing when I installed my changer.
Early 1998 210's had non fiber optic changers and late 1998 210's had fiber optic changers. This may be why there are different brackets. My non fiber optic changer uses the second bracket ( black one ) in your pictures. The kit included the bracket, screws and top cover. The tabs on the bracket mount on the ledge of the well on the driver side of the trunk with the small rubber pads resting against the side wall of the well. The top cover with the MB logo attaches to the bracket with the magnets on the cover. I do not have the cover for the changer. This is a truly plug n play installation. GilleyBenzTech helped me in explaining about the fiber optic and non fiber optic systems. Hope this helps. :D

Neither of the brackets really look correct to me.
The top one (top 2 photos)looks possibly like it may be for a C class instead of an E class.
The next 2 photos look a little closer, but it looks like the tabs are too low, in otherwords the bracket would be holding the changer too high.
The insulation and cover don't look correct for an E class either. It should have just the lid with the plastic pieces that snap on to the bracket on top, no insualtion surrounding the bracket.

The installation is quite easy though. There are screw holes on either side of the changer which line up with holes in the bracket. The screws are installed, but make sure you remove the transit screws and cover the screw holes with tape, and also the orientation of the suspension in the changer should be checked to make sure it is in "V" (vertical).
The chassis pigtail is than plugged in (I'm assuming yours is an early 98 with hardwire system, not a late 98 fiberoptic or D2B system) and the tabs are screwed down to the predrilled holes on the left side of the trunk under the carpet mat.

My installation is exactly as shown in your last post. CD drawer facing rear of trunk simply means that the opening for the cartridge is facing toward the rear of the trunk. I will try to post picture later today. What do you want for the dust cover? :confused:

OK, I was looking around and found this part number:

210 820 25 14

It should be JUST for the bracket, and not the $80 installation kit. Can someone please confirm this and maybe find a picture of which bracket this is? I'm hoping it's the first bracket pictured in this thread.
