Is the accumulator the same as the regulator? And where is it located?

It would help to provide a context by way of what year and model and what system. I'm guessing you're talking about a K-Jetronic fuel system in a 75-91 gasoline engine. The fuel accumulator is bundled with the fuel pump and fuel filter near the fuel tank. The fuel pressure regulator is in the engine bay.

Thanks for the speedy reply. My car is a 1995 S600. What is function of the accumulator.

I'm not sure exactly what the function of the accumulator is outside of maintaining system pressure for quicker engine starts.

I didn't know the later cars still had accumulators.

M119 and M104 engined cars have accumulators.

I believe accumulators hold pressure in the line so that your car starts after it has been sitting for a while.

Now the question is whether or not my 1995 S600 has an accumulator. Do you know whether it does or does not? Also would my car have both an accumulator and a check valve?

I believe your V12 is really two M104 engines joined at the hip.

I think you have an accumulator, but not a check valve. I do know that M103's have a check valve.

also M116/M117 cars as well. Accumulator helps to prevent vapor lock under certain conditions.

The vapor lock problems of yore were solved by relocating the fuel pump from the engine bay to the fuel tank.

MB chose to leave the fuel pump outside of the tank, but still close, to minimize vapor lock problems. The accumulator serves to eliminate the other vapor lock possibilities.

Imagine the labor cost for a fuel pump replacement if MB had chosen to place the fuel pump in the tank like other manufacturers do? :rolleyes:

I looked up under Fastlane's on line parts catalog and the fuel delivery portion doesn't show accumulator for your 95 S600.
It only shows accumulators (one each side) which looks to be for your air suspension.

It does show fuel pressure regulator, which I believe is in the engine bay, close to fuel injection body.

Here is a picture of an accumulator (at the back of car together with fuel pumps and filter, the shiny thing on top).

Thanks for the picture. What kind of car did the picture come from? Was it a 600 or what? I'm still trying to determine whether or not my car has a fuel accumulator.

This is from an 1987 420 SEL, located next to rear tire, passenger side.

I don't think your car has one as it doesn't show up in the FastLane parts catalog.
