The plot thickens
Mike -
Well, what do you make of this? I checked my 560SEL and, yes, it has shields both sides as you say. I checked back to the manual where I got the idea it's only on the driver's side. The reference is in the M117 engine maual, 22-211 (Removal and installation of front engine mount), B - Model 126 where, under para. 5 (Installation) it states: "The shielding plate is located on the left" What to make of all this? |
tom, you're the best-except for one small thing...
i think you have the wrong car.what you should have is a w140 class.that way all your projects would be directly applicable to my car!just kiddin'-sort of!i've learned so much from you already.thankyou very much for all your time

Not sure what to make of it. I don't have access to my manuals here at work, and won't be able to double check until the middle of the night...but I will. Possibly some error in translation?

Thomas,
I just got home and checked the manual. I looked at that passage, then at the drawing. Notice in the drawing there is an arrow on the left side of the shield? That arrow is the locating arrow, indicating which side goes toward the front. My take on the passage is that in the drawing, the locating mark on the shield is situated to the left. Basically drawing attention to the fact that the shield are directional. I could be worng though. |
Engine mount job ....
.... is now restored to the Cars - Technical menu on my web site. Thanks to A Good for pointing out my error.
