Will '92 190E dash fit in '87 190?

Have the opportunity to get a pristine dash from a wrecked 1992 190. Wondering if it will fit in an '87. Does anyone know if there's a difference?

I've R&R'ed a few of them and I don't remember any difference in the dash itself.

The swtich placement is a tad bit different (sunroof moved to the roof in later cars) but otherwise should be a swap-out fit. If memory serves, the sunroof switch in the early cars is located on a panel, not the actual dash itself.

Drive over and compare.

Can any experts shed light on AC ducting, etc? The tempmatic units look the same, and AC operation is identical. No passenger airbag.

If memory serves me correctly the switch panel isn't part of the replacement dash.

Thanks for the replies. The sun roof switch is in the dahs on the 87. I could always use the existing panel.

The dashes for all the W201s are the same, only the trim pieces differ.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like the "Project 190" is going to get a new dash!

cost/job time/effort

how much will the new dash cost you and would you consider posting detailed notes on the operation? my 85 dash has five or six whopper cracks running perp to length and this is a project I would love to tackle (after hearing that it is possible to accomplish without too much cursing).
Thanks,
CDT

I would be glad to. It may be a little while, but I will post the results. It is my understanding that for a first-timer a complete R&R is about 16-18 hours. Once experienced, one can get it down to about 8-10 hours!

also the price of the dash will make the decision for me more than anything else...

Used, but uncracked dashes can be had anywhere from $40 - $100 from recyclers. New dashes are about $400-$500. $459 from Adsitco. I got one off of E-Bay (waiting for the postman to arrive with a really long box) for my '85. Going to custom fit koa wood trim before installing.

Not looking forward to this job, but it may be fun. Here's a pic from Glen's 16V without the dash when he replaced the heater core.

Just returned from the bone yard where I got the dash. I was told the car was going to get crush "any minute" and I had to pull the dash ASAP. Yikes!

I started at 1:05pm. I had both the dash and the heater unit (with heater core) out at 1:55pm.

Yes I was working like a madman. I had the distinct advantage that it didn't matter to anyone except me what was saved or sacrificed. There was no windshield, no seats, most of the console had already been taken out.

I did not remove the dash vents; instead I simply disconnected the tubes. I left as much in the dash unit as possible.

I cut away everything that was unnecessary but I feel that this has got to be close to a record! Whew!

To further illustrate the minimum timing, the 190E body was already in a dumpster on top of another car. I had to climb up into the dumpster. I stopped at 1:55pm because the truck was starting to pull the dumpster up on the flatbed to haul it to a crushing yard.

I scored a very good dash. No cracks, a couple of minor mars, but otherwise very good. I paid in the range of the previous post.

A dash removal isn't too bad. It is the heater core which can take a lot more time replacing.

Haasman, did you ever replace your dash and if so how did it go, could you share some pointers, or picks or tips? Things you'd do differently if you had it to do over again etc....

Thanks,
CDT

I have yet to do this project. I will keep you updated when I do.

There is a small possibility of this weekend.
