Plastic piece between seat and console
 

There is a piece of plastic that is on both sides of the console that surrounds the seatbelt receiver. They wrap around to the back corner of the seat and cover the seat hinge. Mine is starting to jiggle and rattle. I can't figure out what this gizmo attaches to in order to tighten it up. Anybody understand what I am trying to explain and how to fix the jiggle?

I know exactly what you are talking about because I have the same maddening rattle/squeek in my 1993 W201. I have not been able to find the fix either. Looking forward to a post from someone who knows.

Now I know what you're talking about. Mine was doing that too in the W124. I found that simply moving the seat belt receiver around a little bit and found a spot where it didn't rattle. I have not solved the problem entirely but it has slowed down.

Funny little problem isn't it? Seems common.

My 300E had the exact same problem. What I did was buy some black, dense foam (from a foam sanding block) and I cut it into shapes and inserted it into the space between the plastic cover and the seatbelt mechanism. I've got a black interior so you can't see the foam at all. The foam keeps some pressure on the plastic cover and neither of them rattle anymore - they stay put. I love the silence...;)

I used velcro and this helps attatchment, and no movement. Its cheap enough, so try, good luck. Abe G

I had the same problem, often first thing in the morning and it was a "creek ....creek .... creek" sound. Drove all of us crazy in an otherwise very quiet car. I found the short-term solution was to use a silicone spray. I stuffed as many rags as possible around and underneath the area to catch any drips.

The long-term solution is to remove the seats and replace the two covers. Other than the seat removal they are both easy to do. I also use a little bit of silicone paste on the attachment points to both help in installation and to hopefully prevent future "creeks .....".
