Soft Top Control Unit Location - '91 500 SL
 

Where might the soft top control unit be located in a '91 500 SL?

The service literature shows it beneath a plastic cover in the storage bin behind the right seat but in this vehicle the only component there is for the audio system. The trunk mounted fuse box contains a fuse for the soft top control unit so there must be one on board... any idea where?

It is in the right storage compartment behind the right (passengers side) seat.
If you have the sound amp, that's usually in the storage compartment on the left side, and it takes up about the whole compartment.
On the soft top control unit, in that compartment there is a false floor, you need to remove 2 or 3 plastic 10mm nuts to remove the false floor to gain access to the control unit.

Well, if it was a snake it would have bit me...

It was there, in the right storage compartment. What initially appeared to be an audio system component was actually the soft top control module. What threw me was was the large "BECKER" label and the accompanying trademark treble cleft. Didn't realize Becker made non-audio components.

Sometimes even there audio components are non-audio components;) .
