I have recently noticed in my '91 300E that when taking a turn and hitting a bump, I have a shake in the front end. When this occurs, which is typically on rougher roads, it actually "feels" like something is loose in the front end. I have had the car up, but there isn't anything noticably loose. Also there is occassionally a squeaky rattle from the fron end (whether turning or not) when crossing washboard type bumps in the road. Additionally I have noticed a very very minor leak in the left front strut.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks...Guss |
Your struts are shot... Sounds like a classic case of wheel hop under lateral loading. You also might consider these:: lower control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends. All of these components will cause tracking problems. You should also get an alignment after you're done with the fixing part.

Have it put on a lift and checked by a tech. Even if you are going to do it yourself.
