Torx #30 Tool
Does anybody know where to buy this tool from or what the correct Mercedes part number is,
It is used to remove the airbag from the car. I need to remove it to replace the cruise control stalk... Peter |
The special is 126-589-00-10-00 Warning: remove ground lead from battery first !!

A number of years ago finding torx drivers and sockets was a problem. Now it's almost as common as finding a Phillips screwdriver.
Wherever you buy tools should have them in several forms including a nutdriver or screwdriver type, 1/4" drive, even 3/8" drive. Also many interchangeable bit screwdriver type kits now often have torx bits included. Good luck, |
I have the regular torx driver bit, but that is too big for the hole... The one with the handle will not fit in all the way because it is too long.. Does Fastlane have the part, I tried looking it up but it came back with nothing..

Autozone sells a 30 torx screwdriver tool for $3.00; I used it to remove the steering wheel as you want to do, and it worked fine. However, if the screws are in extremely tight, you may not have enough leverage & probably will need a socket.

This is interesting. Last time I looked into pulling the wheel on my 124 the problem was the airbag was secured using tamper resistant torx screws. The tamper resistant head isn't fully open, it has a metal dome cast into it. This dome prevents a standard torx head driver from being inserted - you need a driver which is hollow in the middle to fit over the dome.
I've got a full set of torx head screwdrivers, but they were useless in this application. I can easily get access to the screws, but cannot turn them. Doesn't anybody else run into this problem? Does the MB tool work on the tamper resistant heads? - JimY |
1/4" Hollowed out torx sockets are readily available. The best way to remove the bag is to put the proper 1/4" socket into a narrow magnetic 2" to 3" bit holder and run the screws out with a 1/4" ratchet wrench. Just be sure to disconnect the battery first or you will get a trouble code.
