				16v 02 wires?

on the 16v, which wire is the signal and which wire is the ground to the O2 sensor? i'm installing an air/fuel gauge and i need to know. my understanding is that i should not try to test the sensor with a voltmeter because it may damage it. thanks,

Jason, There are three wires to/from the O2 sensor. The two that are the same gauge and use the same connector are the power and ground for the sensor. The single green (?) wire with a different plug is the signal wire to the ECU. You won`t damage it by reading the voltage from the sensor. Leave the power/ground wires connected to keep it properly heated and make sure the motor is good and hot. The green signal wire is shielded, so be careful if/when you decide to splice into it. what special precautions should i take to spice the shielded signal wire? i am planning on splicing into it. thanks,

you will want to solder the wires from the 02 wire to the Ecu' you don't want to just twist it up ,it will get a worry reading, hey what meter are you using? I was thinking about going with a mixture read gauge to replace the dead stop watch, Kn has a nice one. Dave |

Jason, A sheilded wire is a wire within a wire. The inner wire carries the signal, the outer wire is grounded. Make sure you don`t get them crossed AND you retain the ground. Tinker |

what i decided to do was just splice into the wire on the O2 sensor instead of modifying the shielded wire that is part of my car. i got it hooked up today and it works great. i already adjusted my EHA based on the info i got from the gauge. when i went for another test run my adjustment was evident on the gauge. that's rewarding. i'm using the Auto meter A/F gauge in 2 1/16". it has 20 LEDs in 3 colors red=lean orange=stoich and green=rich. i payed $60 for it including shipping. thanks,
