1st gear start in 93 w140 300se

can i get the car to start in 1st via a switch from the device under the accelerator petal??? it seems to me that when i punch the gas until it hits this device the car will not start in 1st unless shifted manually.. any advice on this??? and what is the device under the gas petal called???

The device under the pedal is the kickdown switch. I have initiated 1st gear shifts using two relays and a pressure switch in the governor test port. The gear shift is initiated by the release of the brake pedal (similar to the 1978-80 300SD) and kickdown is released by relay with the arrival of gov pressure at 10kph unless your foot is on the floor by that time. (bg)

Valve body kits are available to accomplish such things hydraulically.
