Hey guys,
I was looking through my old collection of car magazines, and I have a couple issues of Prestige magazine. I remember paying for a full year subscription and never got anything besides 2 issues. Have you guys received or heard anything? The 1-888 number doesnt work and when you go to benzmag.com there is nothing there and it looks like they are just waiting for someone to buy the domain name. |

Sure looks like it's dead. I was surprised to see this post brought up from three years ago.

Oh, that explains why I haven't seen this magazine anywhere. It sounded like a good idea.

I think I got two or three issues...have to check at home. It was a low-budget operation, never high quality output. I never got the sense that the people responsible for it were true magazine industry people -- they were enthusiasts who tried very hard to get a publication going, in an expensive and crowded market.
Remember that around this time the magazine "Benzo" (remember that one?!? haa haa -- another 2 or three issue wonder) came out as well as just after Mercedes Enthusiast came out. The market was crowded with the sudden glut. And that, combined with USA MB owners collectively being the most apathetic, non-enthusiastic group of car owners on the planet (doubt me? Just look at BMW, Audi, Porsche et al and tell me if I'm wrong), just didn't have the base to support that many mags. Merc Enthusiast survives well mainly because it IS a non-US publication, published in a country where MB does have more enthusiastic followers than the US. In the US, people have merely been content with the STAR, which has degenerated over the decades into mainly a mouthpiece/flack book for MBUSA, devoid of any controversy or independent thought. WHen was the last time you saw a real, true, biting ISSUE put forth in the STAR? Well, there was the discussion of MB quality, but I hear that MB was very very dissatisfied that that article ran / references were made in the STAR. And I think MB's top exec was supposed to be interviewed, and at the last second pulled out of the interview, relegating it to his second-in-command. In any case, I think it will be a two-horse race -- the STAR (hoping under its new management that it at least provides equivalent quality to what we've seen under Frank Barrett) and Merc Enthusiast. There is John Olson's SL Market Letter, but that is geared more toward collectors and investors. Good newsletter, but your average 190 owner is not the target market unfortunately. Cheers, Gerry |

i have to say I have never been too interested in The Star myself. It would appear MB has too much control over what is written and I have spoken with Frank about it. He just got rude and upset when I made the charge and said "he was done with the discussion because he had to leave town.boo hoo...they want any controversy. How can that be any fun. all they would have to do is put in a disclaimer that the feelings in the articles/editorial letters may not be those of the staff/magazine. He told me controversial material subjects them to liability... I am a former newspaper editor myself... get over it and live on the edge. I would love to see a true DIY mercedes magazine!!!
How is that a voice of OWNERS? so I guess it is not an owners magazine...

Found out info on the company
Ok guys,
It turns out, they have a "sister company". Its called 9magazine and its for Porsche enthusists. Here is a link: http://www.9magazine.com/ The founder, Brian Minson's info is here: http://www.9magazine.com/contactus.html So I guess Brian started "Prestige" for Mercedes and "9Magazine" for Porsches and just stopped focusing on "Prestige" and took all the money from subscriptions and advertisers from Mercedes owners and focused on 9Magazine. I like Porsches and will probably get another one soon, but after the whole Prestige incident, I dont know if I want to be a memeber of his 9Magazine. |

Your'e joking,.................right?
Doubt it would be worth it. Even if you won, or more likely, settled, the "Pool of money" set aside to pay it off, about 95% would go to the class action lawyers, and maybe you'd get a "coupon" for the Porsche magazine the guy had, or something of like value. Class actions are a goldmine for the lawyers :fork_off: and a joke for the class, generally. Or you could sue him yourself. That'd be fun, proving damages. That besides not getting the magazine, you woried about it at night for 3 years, couldn't get to sleep, got up in the morning, and vomited Felt your whole life was ruined. Sure, small claims court in Loose Gravel Arizona. The new rag is in Pinetop/Lakeside, a mountain resort popular with Arizonans, its WAAAAY out of the way and not that easy to get to. And what fun it will be trying to collect the judgment if he hides, you get to drag him to court for an order of examination, that's if you can even find him to serve the process on him. Yes you can pursue it for the principle of the thing but for the aggravation, but probably "no vale la pena" (it's not worth it)
