Vertical Hood?
How can I make a hood go vertical? I was told it could be done on MB's. Is there any special trick to it? I have a '83 380 SEL.

Vertical Hood?
you need to push down the tabs near the hinges when you raise the hood.

no need to push the tab near the hinge. You need to undo the metal wire on the pneumatic hood support, then push the hood back to the vertical position.
you will need to push the tab near the hinge when you move the hood back from the vertical to the normal open position. |
Undo? Is it electric and needs to be disconnected? Or is it a metal support wire?
Thanks, |
There's a tab on the driver side hinge that goes in from the front. There's a thumb rest that you push down to disengage the first stage lock. Pull down on the hood slightly, release the tab, then lift the hood beyond the tab. The passenger side tab will stop you from going further. Pull down the hood slightly but not enough to re-engage the driver side tab, release the passenger side tab, then lift the hood as far as it will go. It actually goes a little overcenter and you'll hear a tab engage on the driver side.
Getting it back down is a two stage process because it'll lock (or should) at the first open position. Good safety feature. If you're doing this indoors, make sure you have ceiling clearance to do this. Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

hood
hi
sixto is right. just two tabs one on each side. makes working on the front easy.... down side is you don't have anywhere to hook your lights on. had mine inside my 14 foot hi shop so i ended up using clamp on lights. after saying that i guess you just can't satisfy everyone can you. :D |
