I recently purchased a 1997 SL500 with a low brake pedal. I have had new rotors, calipers and OE brake pads installed, but no change in the pedal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you've bled the brakes and put in new brake fluid and there are no leaks then my guess is a bad mastercylinder.

Any other suggestions?

Sorry i have no answer,because i replaced all break parts including the master cylender and still have a low pedel. The only parts not replaced in my case was the caliper pistons.I hope someone has the answer.

Clarification question: When you say low brake pedal, do you mean that when you put your foot on the brake pedal it doesn't feel firm right away, that the pedal travels a bit before firming up?

If it were my car I would consider changing the flexible brake lines. They are known to swell with age.

A quick test is to get someone to apply the brakes firmly with the engine running while holding one of these lines (such as a front one). Just a little swelling over the length of the tubing can translate into a large amount of pedal travel.

I'm struggling with the same low pedal situation on my lexus.
I've changed pretty much every part i.e brake booster, master cylinder, pressure check valve, rotors and pads. the only thing i can think of at this point is whether the new master cylinder is bad as well.
I have asked this question in the forum but no one replied. What's a good way to check if the master cylinder is bad ? a manual diy check i.e... ?
