Can I put the master link in the chain before assembly?

I will have the lower timing cover removed on my 93 2.6L 19e to replace the right plastic guide that I broke trying to take the pressed pin that holds it out. I am thinking about taking the chain with the link to any shop that has the MB tool. Would the chain fit with the lower cover removed. I just dont know what to expect becasue I never did this before.
