If you have a laptop, check out EASE Diagnostics at www.obd2.com

Good luck,

What year CAR? on 1994-95 E320s(W124) there isn't a OBD2 connection.

Doc, thanks for keeping me straight. I immediately thought 210. The '95 and earlier would not be obd2 although I believe that there is a 202 model or two that were obd2 in 95.

Have a great day,

Doc, will that scanner (OBDII) work for a '97 S420?

HPF 06-06-2003 10:46 AM

Doc, I found my answer. Thanks.

SORRY GUYS

1997 e320:)

All automobiles sold in the US beginning with the '96 model year are required by law to be OBDII compliant. That said, OBDII is indeed a standard, but there are different variations of that standard, so do your research before buying anything to see that it works with all the cars you have.

For a Benz the EASE diagnostics works pretty well for the generics. There are many things beyond basic engine information that is only accessible through the expensive systems that are definitely not a practical purchase for a DIYer.

Good luck,

Larry,

What are your thoughts of the hand held scanner that Jim has tested compared to the Ease sytem? Here is the link to Jim's test

Thanks.

I am thinking about this route. $50 to $80 or so.
Software is free.

Any thoughts?

Works fine

I've got the interface sold at

http://www.obddiagnostics.com/

and can tell you it works great on my 1996 S500. Also, works fine on all my Fords, my wife's Lincoln, etc.
Nice thing about the software ... not only is it free, but you can download and run in "simulate mode" so you can try out the display before buying the interface.
I've run the software on everything from a 50Hz 486 to a 500Hz Pentium III. Works fine. Display is nice and large; easy to read. Also allows you to plot O2 sensor performance and mixture trim.
Nice.

Hope this helps, KenP
