Rear vision mirror - W124
I need to replace the rear vision mirror on a 300CE - 24 (1991). Does anybody know what is involved? It appears that the mirror slides into the roof trim. Does the whole section need to be removed to fit the mirror?
Appreciate any assistance. Mark Dawbney |

It comes off as a WHOLE unit!
Grab the mirror base/arm from the portion closest to the ceiling and pull down and towards the inside. It may be hard if it has never been removed before. If you buy a new one, you could visualize it better.

After a bit of mucking around the new mirror went back in. Thanks all.
On another note it appears the replacement mirror is about half inch smaller all round. Does this sound correct? Anybody know the correct part number? |

Curious as to why you replaced it?
What happened to ours is that the pivot ball securing screw had come loose, and was not accessible without breaking the mirror. This is also what has eventually happened to most mirrors in most cars I've owned in the past. In this case, I fixed it by drilling a small hole completely through the shaft and ball stub, tapping in then a pressfit finishing nail, filing it off flush. This is permanent and nearly invisible. I would like to get a mirror with the compass on it. Does anyone know where to get one for a 94 E320?

W124 Rear Vision Mirror
Steve,
Only replaced the mirror as the original one had split at the bottom, maybe due to the sun after 11 years, and was falling apart at the lever for dimming. No other reason. Mark |
