What % should I tint my black 190? Quick help needed.
I have to decide by my Saturday morning appointment, so I appreciate your responses.
1. The tint shop (very reputable, full guarantee, does all the high end stuff for the NFL Titans' players) suggests 20% sides and rear. My understanding is that the % refers to how much of the natural light the tint will allow IN. That is correct, right? 2. I don't want to look like a limo. I want it to look like more of the darker factory tint. 3. Also, would you recommend a slightly lighter tint on the front windows than on the rear doors and back? Here is my car: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/brookspw/benz_side.jpg This link is to a car with 35% and it is just about what I am looking for. Click here for a pic of what I'm looking for Thanks for your help. I have to decide by Saturday morning. |

1. yes the percentage refers to the amount of light that gets through
2. if you don't want your car to look like a limo, stay away from 20% and 5% - these 2 shades are considered limo tint. That leaves you with 3 choices 35% (my recommendation), 50% (O.K. but not dark enough for my taste), and 75% (looks like you don't have any tint, it's basically put on to filter out the UVL) 3. I would stick to the same shade all around. NOTE: Double check with your police dept to see what the Law in your state is regarding tint. ie. in California any shade is o.k. as long as you don't tint the 2 front windows and the windshield. In Hawaii, you can tint all your windows 35% or lighter. (except your windshield) |
Thanks, guys, for the help.
I'm thinking 35%. In Tennessee, 35% is the max. Although I've never heard, in TN, of anyone ever being cited and I have seen some VERY dark windows. Thanks |
a buddy of mine in PA was pulled over and the cop took a key and ripped down the window, which destroyed the tint. Maybe just an isolated incident??

go 35%. that's what i'm going to do on my 16v.
you can actually see out of a 35%. anything darker and it gets difficult to see out at night. |
I agree 35% all around is the way to go. I have 35% on my 300E. It looks good in the day(reflects UV rays so your A/C is a thousand times more efficient, looks great at night, doest attract police, and it makes you car look more statelier. Dark dark tints attract the wrong kind of attention, with dark tints police feel that you have something to hide and crooks think you have big $$$ equiptment in your car. 35% is most suitable.
