Situation: T'was a dark street late at night; doing a headlight adjustment. Popped the hood, exited the car, closed the door, car running. After the adjustment, YIKES! :eek: doors all locked. Luckily I live in California and had the sunroof open AND was near a neighbor's house (borrowed a stool to reach in through the sunroof to unlock the door).

QUESTION: What gives? Why would this have happened? Of course the doors auto-locked when I first started the car up. Then, when I exited the car, the driver's door only would have auto un-locked (as I pulled on the handle). But, why re-lock after closing the door (with car running)?

Yup, my '87 16V locks by itself on occasion, with the key out of the ignition, or in, and with the ignition on or off. I can unlock the car and close the door, and it will lock itself in about 10 seconds. Just goes away by itself. I suspect the vacuum check valve, which I ordered ($8). I'll let you know if it works.

CHECK THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE VACUUM ACTUATOR FOR TRUNK LOCK,IF THE ROD LENGTH IS TOO SHORT TRUNK AND DOORS WILL LOCK THEMSELVES.ADJUST THE ROD UNTIL ACTUATOR MOVES TO LOCKED POSITTION ONLY WHEN KEY IS TURNED FULLY TO CLOCKWISE. M.F.
