Leaking Transmission
My Transmission fluid level was down and when I was adding fluid I noticed (immediately) that fluid was coming out from underneath somewhere. I have not had a chance to get under the car but I do not think that it is leaking around the pan.......does anyone have any ideas of what it could be.

Looks like Its time for a trans filter and gasket. It cost aorund $20 for the kit and labor should be 1/2 to 1 hour.

First thing to check is the ripes to the oil cooler.
Apart from the pan, just about every other leak involves the transmission out ![]()

If it is the pipes, is that difficult to fix. Also, is there a procedure on line for changing the filter and gasket?

If it leaks immediately when you are adding fluid, it could be that the dipstick tube itself may be leaking at the point of entry into the trans.

Really in order to change the filter and gasket.
Get car lifted. Remove trans pan. All Fluid will come out You will see the filter. Remove filter. Remove old rubber gasket from trans pan.CHECK FOR BITS OF METAL IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANS PAN. METAL=WORN TRANNY. Add New filter. Add new gasket. Bolt pan back on,alternating bolts. Do not bolt the right side then left side, that will make the tranny leak prematurely. Fill car back up with tranny fluid. DONT ALWAYS JUMP TO THE MOST EXPENSIVE REPAIR. IT IS FAIRLY COMMON FOR THESE 10+ YEAR OLD GASKETS TO FAIL. RUBBER+OIL=WEAR OF RUBBER

How does the dipstick tube attach to the pan? Is it welded?
