Replacing fuel pressure regulator valve
 

My 300 CE continues to stall after complete stop and then runs fine at higher speeds. Also, I am having trouble starting the car at warm temperatures.

My mechanic said I needed to replace my fuel pressure regulator valve ($400) and also cam shaft sensor ($300). I have spent over $2000 this year at this shop (new belt, belt tensioner and fan bearing).

I was contemplating replacing the fuel pressure regulator with my Dad 's help and saving some money. I was wondering if this would be too difficult for us to tackle? Which manuals I should buy (Chilton's). Also, do I need to replace the cam shaft sensor? I am not sure what this does.

The fuel pressure regulator is available from fastlane for a little over $200. What engine( year model) CE is it? I didn't know they had cam sensors.

My MB is a 1991 300 CE 24-valve (104.980). No cam shaft sensor?

Any advice???

My CD shows the 91 CE to have the 103.983 engine. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. But, in my opinion, if someone charged $2000 to replace the tensioner, bearing and belt, then I would be looking for a new tech!

Have a simple fuel pressure test done ..that will test, along with
other things, the regulator...
A common reg fault on 104s is the diaphram leaks by.. take the vac line off when running and see if any fuel comes out this port...if so, Bad reg ..
Did the car have any cam sens related codes ???

i just have mine replaced and I have a W140 with a 3.2 engine. M104.990 engine petrol car.

The regulator is cheap. I got a mechanic to replace it but I watch him did it in 5 minutes. If we have the same engine, we should, I think you can do it yourself. The part when I looked at fastlane was 40 odd dollars...

Arthur is right, you should get a pressure meter and check for leak. Without any tools, you can pull the little hose off and see if petrol drop out. if you have, its a replacement.

My tech had to use a special plies to remove the ring. Without that it would be difficult but can still be done.

The "master" mechanic told me that gas was leaking from the regulator. I am not sure how he knew that the cam shaft sensor wasn't functioning properly. Is there a diagnostic report I should ask for?

Are there any special tools I need to buy in order replace the regulator?
