Hello,
I have a question, is it normal upon cold startup for the engine to immediately go to 1000+/-, then settle into a warmup idle (100-200 rpm above idle)? I have read elsewhere that most engine wear occur's during startup, and since it can be cold up here, I am concerned that this reving can cause damage, I would be interested on any input. Thanks.

How long before the RPM's drop? Sounds like you might be running a bit rich on startup. Don't know if that engine has thermo valve or if it has a cold start injector which may be staying open too long.

I cringe every time I start the car cold, I don't hear anything bad from the motor, but it almost make me wish for a Oil prime pump for a couple of sec to get the Oil pressure up before anything inside moves.
BTW, it usually drops down within 1 sec.

This is normal in the 6 cylinder engines. Generally, the oil pumps quick enough right after ignition that vital parts get lubricated quickly enough. My 300E 2.8 does the same thing and each one I've had in the shop (104 motor and others) exhibits the same habits. Don't worry. If MB thought it would be detrimental to engine longevity, they wouldn't have designed it to do that.

I'm forgetting that Mercedes engineering is World Renown for a reason, results! I just wanted to make sure I didn't have a problem, Thanks for the info.
