400E EZL Ignition problem??
Hey....I've got a 92 400E with a weird issue that maybe EZL related. Drives great until it gets hot then looses the right bank ignition, sometimes, maybe, not always...but usually. I've pulled the codes and the only one that makes any sense, other than the misfire on the right side, is for the Anti-lock system with ASR (which this car has )I get DTC 30 and 32. Does the 32 data line plug into the EZL? ........ could it be getting affected by heat? I have swapped the EZL itself and it didn't make any difference...fortunately I have another 400E with no problems I have used as a donor. Swapped coils, caps, rotors, temp sensors, ALL the computers, CMP and replace the Crank Sensor. I can drive this car on the highway all day with no problems but then if I park it for 1/2 an hour, when I start it, then the problem appears....runs on 4 cylinders. I can still drive it and generally it gets better as the RPM increases, but then it may not. It's a weird one. Gotta be something getting overheated when it sits. Anything in the transmission that would confuse the ignition? Could the EZL be shutting down the spark to the right distributor only? Could any of the data lines that go to the EZL be affect by the heat? There is only one that goes to wards the engine....the others ( 2 big ones) go the other way. Ever hear of this type of issue?

What makes you think the right bank is shutting down? Each distributor cap and coil controls two cylinders on each side - 1 4 6 7 and 5 8 3 2.

....swapped the coils out too. I know the right bank has failed because the DTC codes for the DI show a miss fire on 1/4/6/7.....that is the right bank.
It has to be something else.....like the data cable from the computer to the EZL that tells the right bank to fire....just a guess though. Right now I would believe solar flare as the reason. |
