Ignition coils on the 94 E320
When I was swapping the plug connectors and the spark plugs, I NOTICED that the middle ignition coil is DIFFERENT from the other two?! This doesn't seem right...are all three coils suppose to be the same spec? I guess I have to order an ignition coil to swap out the suspect "wrong" one. I can't believe some Mercedes dealer put in the wrong part, and the spark plug is black?! Please advise guys, thanks..

The two on each end are rounded with a blue sticker with part#
0 221 506 444 000 158 70 03 ZS 004 The one in the middle is a flat block with a black sticker with part# 0 221 506 002 A 000 158 75 03 ZS 0004 Strange, isn't it...thanks for your help, Arthur. |

I read a post [ I think a Gilly post] that stated the Blue sticker coils were troublesome..
So , maybe they changed the center one . Gilly may see this... Anyway, check the other plug from that coil... these coils feed 2 plugs and they are in series , so if one acts up, it can affect the other [ if it is the last in the series].... I would expect to see both plugs showing fouling if it is the coil... |

It turns out that the Black one doesn't fit this car. It fits other 104 engines but not the 94 E320 so says the local MB parts dept. Strange why it was put in as this part cost twice as much.

All 104 w/dist-less list the 000 158 70 03 as correct
I don't see any 75-03 for 104, although the part is a listed part I think you may have had a bad oem Blue coil and they changed it out w/wrong part#.. Fastlane list a Bosch coil ..[ $65] What did they finally replace it with ?? [ make/part#] |

The black one is a Bosch part but not for my 94 E320. The MB parts managers said it listed that part for a multitude of 104 engines. Now that I changed the spark plug resistors and the 3 spark plugs, the engine runs fine for the last day without the CE light coming on. Now should I leave this coil in or replace it with the proper coil. Should I bother to change the other 3 sprk plugs? I got the car going into MB to replace the EGR valve on the recall at their cost. Many thanks, Arthur.
On second thought, I think I will change that coil as the 2 plugs for that coil were fouled...and change the other 3 plugs as they are so cheap. I know this area can be problematic so I'll do the right thing.
