I noticed on the Fluke website that the model 78 has the capability of measuring duty cycle and dwell. Does anyone know whether the Model 77 or 78 will work to measure lambda as the Model 87 does? (It's cheaper, I think)

Depends on what you want to measure about lambda. Actually if they both do duty-cycle then they both should handle the whole book.
The oxygen sensor is monitored best with a DSO but most everything can be seen with a Multimeter. Things like cross-counts and lean-rich reaction time can really only be seen on the DSO. A qualitative judgement can be gotten with the Volt-meter function. The systems on board diagnostics measured in duty cycle on pin# 3 of the left fender diagnostic socket can be done with the duty-cycle function of either VOM. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician |

The only thing you can do is try it. I don't think that my 77 will. The 87 and 88 will do the lambda check. You can find it if you search for it on this site...I have posted how to do this before. Or you can buy a real lambda meter from Baum tools. At Baum tools.com
