W140 Hard Starting
W140 300SE 92 with M104 engine
I recently developed a hard start problem. It takes 2 times to start rather than the usual 1 time only. Overnight cold engine is fine but if the car have been left after a 30 minutes to 2 hours rest (i.e. warm engine), the start problems comes in. I have the pressure regulator replaced, spark plugs replaced and fuel filter replaced. What else could be wrong? Advice please. Many thanks |

Did you tried doing a fuel pressure check? It would tell you if car is holding up the pressre, if not, it could be Fuel accumulator, check valves, Fuel distributor etc. The reason you morning starts are ok, because cold start injector assist the engine by squirting gas in the engine at low engine temperatures. Once car ran and then sits for a while, on next start the CSI do not kicks in since engine temp. is not low engough.
Good luck

First of all, you posted this in 2003?
Anywhere, I have the same problem a month ago. That is difficult to start when the engine is warm. Cold and Hot engine has no problem to start. So what did I do. I open the distributor cap and the rotors (two of them) and clean them using sand paper. After this I have no problem to start the engine. I must be the lucky guy. |
