Greasing sunroof rails

I've read, I think, every post on the forum about this subject and am still confused.

I have a '95 E320. With the sunroof sompletely open there are, on each side of the sunroof, chrome covers that have 5 screws.

I took those off which I think exposed the slide rails. They are shaped sort of like this: _l l_ (couldn't figure out how to put a cap on the two vertical lines in this figure).

My question; do I grease just the outboard lower horizontal rail on each side?

Thanks.

ahobgood find Thomaspin post and follow it to his website that shows the procedure. He has some really good detailed pics that more than likely will be applicable to your car.

I think this is a really good question. I've seen a number of prior posts, and looked at thomaspin's web site, and I'm STILL not sure whether to lube the TOP or BOTTOM of which rail ...

The whole procedure includes taking off the panel, but then re-installing it can be a pain without the device that preloads it into the front gasket. I think if you just lightly grease the bottom sliding surface of the rail, that should get you most of the way there. The disadvantage of doing it this way is it's near impossible to grease the tracks that go into the back of the roof.

Whatever you do, make sure you clean the rails first and use the MB slide paste.
