Will a 16v potentiometer work on 300E?

Posted earlier but got no responses. Will a potentiometer for a 1986 16v work on my father's 1987 300E? The part # for the 16V is 3-437-224-035. I have read the other threads on replacement but I wanted to make sure that was the same number for mine.
