My 90 500 sl has a code 17 Oxygen sensor signal wire shorted to ground. Will the o2 sensor cause the engine to rough idle and have absolutly no power. I mean by no power it will hardly move when applying throttle. Also at idle out of gear it is difficult to get RPM's from the engine.

I doubt that the problem is the sensor. It is more likely that the sensor is pegged due to the problem causing the lack of power.

To check, disconnect the O2 sensor. At that point read up on EHA and electronic fuel controls.
