I am looking at buying a 94 S320 with 123000. Are there any particular problems and/or concerns that I need to be aware of with this year and model. I was told that the car had the Transmission replaced with a MB Tranny and that it had a Head Gasket replaced. The price tag is roughly 17000. The body and interior appear to be is good shape. I test drove the car and it rode well with no obvious problems. Has anyone experience problems with either this year or model.

That year 104 motor had problems with the engine wiring harness. That was in the first years of the electronic fuel control and they had problems with the harness insulation just falling off the wires; not a good thing.

Other than that and the head gasket problems that is in the last years of that body sytle (124) and as a result has the best most proven systems. It should make a great car. About the price I really don't know I don't follow sales much.

Did the 104 motor have these problems in the 93 model year vehicles also (first year of 104 in NA)? Why would MB let them persist for two years on their bread-and-butter engine? Finally, were these cleared up for the '95s?
Incindentally, Steve, I think Troy is looking at a W140 body (vs. 124), I wonder if that brings any additional concerns...?
Looking at one of these myself...

Poor old eyes. I better quit reading so fast. We are working on two E320s today in the shop (a 94 and a 95) musta had em on the brain.

It just about changes everything except the wiring harness situation. Instead of being the last model of a relatively simple car its the first model (almost) of a very sophisticated car.

The 140 chassis has evaporator problems that are significant and every system has a few more components and extra costs. I have seen more than one of them traded with a grocery list of expensive problems.

Call me ignorant, but what is an evaporator problem. Also, will the factory wheel that came off my 93 300SL fit on a 94' S320.

The evaporator is the component inside the car that takes the heat from the air and gives you cold air out the vents...When it fails, it is big $$$$$./ Like .$2,500 or more.
