sticking throttle

The throttle on my daughters 190DT stuck this morning. It scared her a little but she was able to slow it down. The throttle released and she was able to get home ok.

What should I look for when I pop the hood this afternoon.

First, try to bracket the problem. Isolate the problem to either the pedal assy, throttle cable, or throttle assy. Cables can get kinked inside the sleeves by abusive repairs. Also look for interference and weak or broken return springs.

Definitely get to the bottom of this problem. It's a serious safety issue. In the meantime, make sure your daughter is trained to properly deal with this problem should it happen again, such as shifting to neutral and turning the ignition key to the OFF - but not LOCK - position, so she can turn off the engine yet still steer.

Good points Kestas...definately check all the throttle links as stated from pedal to linkage assembly.

...And also remind her that the powerassist is disabled for brakes and steering when you turn the key to off.

Thanks for the response. It looks like there was some binding at the connection under the intake manifold. I saturated it with WD-40 and came loose. I did'nt see any springs or anything to adjust down there.

The throttle itself appears to be moving fine.

Its a common problem on the 190, but lubrication of it is also part of the standard service schedule, if that's been stuck to. I do mine regularly because I hear about it happening too often..
