1995 MBenz E420 Engine Failure
without warning the engine dies at low speed several times a day. The fuel regulator valve has been replaced.
|
May or may not be related, but there is a service bulletin regarding a stalling problem related to Overvoltage Protection Relay Module.
|
Check the OVP and fuel pump relay.
Cheers. |
I don't believe E420's have an OVP.

Willy seems to think his car has one. Will - Can u confirm if your E420 has an OVP? |
ALLDATA shows this vehicle as having an OVP in the right rear engine compartment, part K12/1 in the schematic.
|
Yes it does... and I really thought I had one... yet I just did a search and some very knowlegeable people say it doesn't. Look HERE.

mmmmm..very interesting... I have found that ALLDATA can be misleading, hope you find the problem.
|
Coomon reasons:
1. Fuel pump relay. 2. Wiring harness (yes the M119's have some issues) 3. The M119's also need new caps/rotors on a regular basis, and many owners overlook these parts. I can't recall checking codes on the W124 E420, does it have the blinking light set-up, anyone? |
My 400E might have the same problem, something with the idle. Mine won't stall usually, but it will almost stall, like the idle just isn't catching. Let me know!

The following is from this forum sometime ago--I saved it in my MB E420 Notes file. Thus, I'm not the author, but fwiw, it appears responsive to your inquiry:
"To start with the E420 doesn't have an over-voltage relay like the E320/C280 cars! Stalling can be caused by carbon build-up on the throttle plate. The throttle body bolts directly to the intake manifold. There is a small hole drilled into the butterfly(M119) and if carbon builds up on this hole the car will die at times Check your throttle actuator. You can try moving around the actuator cable as it idles. Sometimes they have internal potentiometer problems. Might be better to have a tech check it. This is a common problem on these cars. Many times CLEANING the throttle body area with a scotch-brite pad will eliminate the stalling problem. 99% of the time, it is the throttle body. I have replaced several and fixed all of the complaints." Regards RJN |
engine failure
:) I want to thank you for your imput and ideas to resolve my engine difficulties. I want you to know that since the fuel pump was replaced on my car, the problem of the engine dying out has been solved. I appreciate your comments and suggestions.
